Why Compress Videos?

Video files are the single largest consumers of storage and bandwidth on the web. A raw 4K video recording from a smartphone can be several gigabytes — far too large to upload to social media, email to a colleague, or host on a website without consuming enormous bandwidth. Video compression uses encoding algorithms to remove redundant visual data between frames, dramatically reducing file size while keeping the video watchable.

EazyStudio's video compressor uses FFmpeg on our secure server to compress your video with the H.264 codec — the most widely compatible video format, supported by every device, platform, and browser. Your file is processed server-side and immediately deleted from our servers after you download it.

Resolution and Quality Settings

The resolution setting controls the dimensions of the output video. Lowering from 1080p to 720p reduces file size significantly (often by 40–60%) while still looking sharp on most screens. The quality setting controls the CRF (Constant Rate Factor) — a lower CRF produces a higher quality, larger file; a higher CRF produces a smaller, slightly more compressed file. For most sharing use cases, 720p at Medium quality is the ideal balance.

Supported Video Formats

This tool accepts MP4 (the most common video format), MOV (Apple QuickTime), MKV (Matroska, used for high-quality video), WebM (Google's web video format), and AVI (older Windows format). All inputs are compressed and output as MP4 with H.264 encoding for maximum device compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video stored on your servers?

Your video is temporarily uploaded to our secure server for processing only. It is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers immediately after you download the compressed file. We do not retain, view, or share your video files.

What is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size is 500 MB. This covers the vast majority of video clips and recordings. For longer videos or full movies, consider splitting the video into segments first.

How much will compression reduce my file size?

Results vary depending on the source video and your settings. On average, you can expect to reduce file size by 50–80% at Medium quality. A 100 MB video often compresses to 20–50 MB with minimal visible quality loss.

Will the audio track be preserved?

Yes. The audio track is preserved in the compressed output using AAC encoding, which produces excellent quality at low file sizes. The original audio quality is maintained as closely as possible within the target bitrate.
